Agreed, I am a firm believer in not placing all one's eggs in a single basket. In the realm of technology, companies are constantly leap frogging ahead of the competition. For the moment, IBM has the edge in hardware and database technology. That will most likely change somewhere in the future. > >2. Then why have you been criticisizing Informix in this forum from as far back as 2002? You have been bating this group for 4 years. While stating the obvious, things we've known about Informix marketing since the beginning, you offer nothing new. You reiterate things that loyal users have been saying since the early 90's. You make statements like above, but then proceed to write an Informix epitaph. You contribute nothing. All you do is inflame emotions. You seem to get some perverse pleasure in generating these vehement flames. I have a hard time distinguishing your method and style from those in the middle east that have used a similar technique to instigate violent riots over cartoons that were published many months ago in the Danish press. Is this last statement really that far of a reach. Only you have true insight into your own motives. > >4. I'll ask again, why are you in this forum? Why do you feel it necessary to continually berate this group and condemn the Informix product? Have you no life? Is this the only place where anyone gives you the attention you crave? What is your real purpose? My attitude regarding you is that you are just another form of SPAM invading what was once a very useful forum. >-- >Daniel A. I'm confused, he said some great stuff, and that "rearranging the deck chairs" is so right on.
Apparently I've trapped myself in the event horizon surrounding the black hole known as SPAM. My issue with Daniel is really quite simple. He states the obvious. More accurately, he only restates what loyal Informix users have been saying themselves for more than 10 years. He has no unique insights. Where the furur comes in is that I find it extremely insulting coming from an Oracle bigot posting in an Informix forum for no other purpose than to fan the flames. We do that quite well ourselves, don't we now. >From: Double Echo <doubleecho@your.com> >Reply-To: doubleecho@your.com >To: informix-list@iiug.org >Subject: Re: Announcing: The IBM Customer Advisory Council for Informix >Date: Thu, 09 Feb 2006 18:35:05 -0500 > >Barry Leb wrote: > > > I'm not the one trolling in an Oracle forum or any other forum. That's just about what it will take to get IBM to take anything anyone says here seriously. I see very few people here actually contributing new ideas to help Informix marketing or move developer programs to the forefront to really make the product a serious contender in the market. Daniel is pro-Oracle, so what, maybe you should look past that. I'll be the first to admit I don't write with optimal clarity, and when I see somebody else, even OTC say in few words what I cannot, I pay attention. I only hope that IBM will too. So encourage Daniel and anyone else to speak up, we need the support. Staying silent accomplishes nothing.

If I was going to be precise about it, then technically I'd suggest you statistically analyse Daniel's posting history. -- Bye now, Obnoxio "C'est pas parce qu'on n'a rien ' dire qu'il faut fermer sa gueule" - Coluche did i mention i like nulls? heck, i even go so far as to say that all columns in a table except the primary key could/should be nullable. this has certain advantages, for example, if you need to insert a child record and you don't have a parent row for it, just do an insert into the parent table with the primary key value (everything else null), and voila, relational integrity is preserved. but this is, admittedly, a bit controversial among modellers. --r937, dbforums.com
