Hi All,
We are in a situation which can be described as follows:
Using Informix Online DSA 7.24 in IBM AIX UNIX 4.2
After dbimport of our database. We need to change the structure of one of
the field in a table which is having 19lakh records.
But after changing the structure of the field which is indexed. We get an
error ERROR # 212 and ERROR # 28
We have created a tempdbs which havng 1GB space, but no imporvement.
Can any one give us a procedure how to change the structure (size) of a
field which is indexed and how to do it step by step?
Regards
Krishna

You added a tempdbspace but what are the settings of the environment
variables: DBSPACETEMP and PSORT_DBTEMP? Since error 28 is not an
Informix error but a UNIX error (no space left on device) I suspect
that PSORT_DBTEMP is set to some filesystem with not enough space to
perform the sort needed to build the index. Either unset PSORT_DBTEMP,
which takes precedence over DBSPACETEMP, or reset it to point to one
or more filesystems (remember that the size of the sort will be limited
by the number of dbspaces and the free space available on the
filesystem with the LEAST available space). If neither DBSPACETEMP nor
PSORT_DBTEMP are set then sorting takes place in ROOTDBS where you
typically have very little free space.
