Re: page 1 of x in 4gl reports ???

ok - time to put my oar in...... Post processing can be fun. We once, back in the 2.12 days, had to produce a report from 14 tables using ace. For performance reasons it was unfeasible to do the join. Thus we had a script which generated code which ran 14 programs which generated output which had as the first portion of the output a key, the key was in turn was designed to indicate where each DETAIL LINE of the output would go in relationship to all of the other lines from the other 13 reports. This was all then sort/merged into a single file which was then parsed by awk which did the actual header/footer nonsense. On an AT&T 6300 this puppy ran in relatively short order. I gather it is still in production today. Just forget your inhibitions about having 4gl do all of the header/footer bs and put that into your awk code as well - it isn't that hard. cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@boi.hp.com Currently on loan to PLD/PE _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
