I have run into some of the same things. Whereas my following comments are purely speculation and guesses, due to the fact that I've been "enduring" Access today, trying to automate a nightly data load (ie: "load from file insert into accesstable"). I may -- you're from .de and Microsoft is generally bad about internationali[zs]ation -- are your decimals (not familiar with .de format) in the "1.233.455,32" format? This may be confusing Access. We all know it doesn't take much. > You cannot order by any column other than the one that has the index on > it. > Why? Because Access uses something called the Jet engine. But to make a long story short its because > Microsoft > Databases can order by columns not in the Select and an Informix > Database > can't. Although that column has to be read anyway -- its more a case of MS hiding things that Informix makes explicit and required. Does one or the other of these behaviors break SQL specs? I don't remember what was said about that, if anything. -Richard
