Deepa Try using the Unix utility tee which basically "tee"-s the output to both the file and stdout. You would need to replace: > output_file to | tee -a output_file HTH Sujit Pal ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: ondatartr output Author: Deepa Sankaranarayan <deepa_sankaranarayan@hp.com> at Internet Date: 5/5/98 3:13 PM Hi We have a script that reads the output from ondatartr to check if the tape we loaded is the right one or not. A grep on the output gives the date of the backup. The problem is, if the output of ondatartr is redirected to a file, the file gets written to, only at the time when ondatartr is finishing, which means we wait for the entire ondatartr to complete before we can see the date of backup.. Its only if ondatartr writes to the terminal that output is written immediately. Anyone has any idea on how to get around this problem. I am trying to use the unix 'script' command, no success yet. TIA Deepa
