shm initialization problem solved - was NUMAIOVPS
Answer to my own question -
shm init problem solved at last
NUMAIOVPS was not set (look at my onconfig file). I changed the parameter to 1
(defeult is 6 or num chunks * 2, whichever is greater) according to the book
from Elisabeth Sato- Informix Performance Tuning (p. 66/67):
ROOTOFFSET was 0
INFORMIX Online dynamic server is controlled by a set of I/O vps. (...) On some
operating systems, the actual disk I/O is handled not by the AIO vps but by the
UNIX kernel. This type of I/O is known as *kernel* AIO and can add a
significant performance boost to to I/O processing. However, it is used for
online I/O only on certain systems.

I had a running instance with cooked files, hence received this output for
onstat -g ioq:

Again, Then I changed NUMAIOVPS to 1 , changed ONCONFIG to
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig.raw, ran oninit -i -s et voil' -
