Limitations of LINUX/INFORMIX Evaluation Products

What if any are the limitations of evaluation products downloaded from Informix website? I am currently have a problem with "set explain on", 581, error which indicates error loading message file. I was attempting to determine how much work it would be to convert our current applications to Linux, as opposed to another possible solution. It is being to look like a great big problem typical of my experience with Informix since 1988. There seems to be nothing you can do to get away from the most aggravating bugs that seem to never get fixed. Honestly, are there some favored platforms where everything just works? If so, what the hell are they. I have presently got libraries compiled (that took a couple of weeks to sort through the usual Informix problems) and a sample application in test mode, that core dumps for some reason. When I turn on MY debugging stuff (which set explain is part of). That does not work. Do I really want to go through this with Informix on Linux.? Is there no end to stupid informix shit? -- mkuhn@rhlab.com

I've been noticing that you're running into a lot of problems over the last few weeks. The normal route for dealing with such issues is to go through Tech Support, but if you are evaluating the product, you typically don't have a support contract, which makes life more difficult. > I am currently have a problem with "set explain on", 581, error > which indicates error loading message file. I've attempted to help you with pointers on this -- unsuccessfully it seems. I'll be responding to that in a few more moments. > I was attempting to determine how much work it would be to > convert our current applications to Linux, as opposed to > another possible solution. > > It is being to look like a great big problem typical of my experience > with Informix since 1988. > > There seems to be nothing you can do to get away from the most > aggravating bugs that seem to never get fixed. > > Honestly, are there some favored platforms where everything just works? > If so, what the hell are they. Yes; Solaris typically just works. I have stuff running on Linux, usually without problems, but I'm also usually not stressing the edges on Linux (or Solaris, probably, but I tend to push Solaris a little harder). > I have presently got libraries compiled (that took a couple of weeks > to sort through the usual Informix problems) and a sample application > in test mode, that core dumps for some reason.
