Dear Gurus, I have just started to learn db2 and created a database. What i have realized was , for each database , db2 created a new directory and for each table , new .dat file. (like our Standard engine) . Is this the only way or am i missing something? If so , is there any page structure in db2 as in Informix 5.x,7.x,9.x . Good old informix........ Bye, hope
You are describing the SMS tablespace (i.e. dbspace) environment. While there is a seperate dat and idx file, the file is organized in pages just as in Informix. Basically, the SMS container is doing page allocations instead of extent allocations. In addition to SMS tablespaces, you can create DMS tablespaces which work like Informix.
