Growing dbspace

Dear Informix experts, I have problem with my dbspace that suddenly growing in size . Within one night it grows by almost 40,000 pages where in normal case should be between 1000 - 2000 pages daily. Do you think because of temporary tables stuck in the process and how do I eliminate those unused temporary data besides using dbexport/dbimport ? Does Informix has some utility to clean up those junks ? Our server is Informix OnLine 5 with 4GL and ISQL Thanks in advance for your advice.

It could be you have a table that has a very large next extent size. It grows say 1000 pages a day – but the next extent size is 40000. So it creates a new 40000 page extent, then takes 40 days to fill, and on day 40 (or there about) it throws another 40000 extent. Dbschema with the –ss option will tell you this – but I’m not sure that is available in v5, and if not I don’t remember how to tell this in v5 – and don't have any v5 manuals -- sorry.
