Their tools revenue was down 17% in the last quarter whereas their database revenue was up nearly 50%. Version 3 is really what version 1 should have been. The v3 tools are a lot faster and it now feels like a Windows application. Will NewEra survive? I think that depends on how well it integrates with Universal Server. >But what I'd like to hear is some concrete examples of why New Era is >superior or inferior to other products. Can you (or anybody else) tell >me why Delphi (or any other product) "runs circles around" New Era? The Delphi environment is slick, easy to use, and well integrated so from that point of view, it runs circles around NewEra v3. The problem with Delphi compared to NewEra is that you can't build big systems with it. In NewEra you can share your classes across many DLLs whereas Delphi forces you to put everything in one. NewEra is not really appropriate for small systems because you have to do a lot of work up-front. In terms of performance, Delphi runs ok for up to 50-100 active users. NewEra is ok for 400-500 active users. Beyond that you probably need Forte. >The user interface seems OK to me, not all that terrible.
