The word passed back through the channel is that Informix will not work with NIS+, as allegedly so will not Oracle or Sybase. Supposedly, Sun is now meeting with the big RDBMS vendors to help (persuade?) them to support NIS+. There was one point in the report that I got that I wasn't completely clear on related to "initializing" the database. I didn't understand if they meant installing the software, configuring the DBMS and file systems, or bringing the engine on-line. I didn't pursue it since my interest was strictly long term. The implication was that maybe you could do *some* things with Informix under NIS+. You might investigate this possibility and post any new info you get.
