RE: Hardware Comparison between SUN E6900 and IBM P570

I think IBM have the policy to loan Server if they see a potential of a big sale. Even if they don lend you one, they have state of the art LABs for their partners and customer to test and benchmark their application. We used their LAB in Boston to benchmark one of our applications. I had a friend that used this line in college with his dates. It never seemed to work for him. Maybe I'll have better luck with IBM and SUN than he had with his dates. I think the actual cost of the hardware is pennies on the dollar for what they are selling it for. That doesn't mean they are ripping us off, just think about all of the fixed costs involved in creating a server. Even if the box had only $0.10 of parts if the fixed costs totaled a $100 million then they would have to sell 1,000 at $100,010 to break even*. So, they actually might be willing to loan us some machines to play with since we are going to buy more than 1 and it only takes $0.10 to make one of them ;-). After, all once they have committed all of those fixed costs to the servers they are really desperate to sell them. * break even price = fix cost / ( num units - variable cost ) _______________________________________________ Informix-list mailing list Informix-list@iiug.org http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list
