Informix Dynamic Server 7.31?
Posted in 1998
A user running IDS 7.30.UC3/UC5 on Sun E3000/E4000 hit unspecified problems and asked when 7.31 for Unix would ship. Replies said 7.31 was in beta with GA expected mid-to-late February 1999 (about 20 Feb), with media a couple of weeks later; contents were under NDA beyond hints of performance work (notably EDR). Follow-ups shared other 7.30 troubles: a PeopleSoft performance regression on AIX under UC5-1 that Informix couldn't reproduce (users considering reverting to UC3), and an unfixed temp-table bug where an index on a 'with no log' temp table isn't updated. No resolution is recorded.

Is any information available regarding the release of IDS 7.31 for Unix? We have Sun E3000 and E4000 machines and are experiencing problems with both 7.30.UC3 and 7.30.UC5 and are curious about 7.31. Thanks. Carleen Avant Naval Safety Center Internet < cavant@safecen.navy.mil > COM (757)444-3520 DSN 564-3520 ext 7050
It's currently in beta. I'm guessing that GA will be in January or Feb. MS CARLEEN C AVANT wrote: > Is any information available regarding the release of IDS 7.31 for Unix? Current GA date is mid-February. Allowing for punching the media, March 1st would be a good time to call INFORMIX for the product. If they don't have it ready, you can always get on the waiting list. Current GA date is February 15. Give two weeks for media generation, so March 1st would be a good time to call to order it. Of course, you can always call (for an upgrade) Customer Service and get on the waiting list. Happy Holidays. Clifton

My spies have the expected release date at February 20, 1999 which jives with Clifton's info pretty well. Art S. Kagel

But I can say that there are some nice goodies and there was another session of speedup rewrites, especially, but not excusively, to EDR. Art S. Kagel
Can I ask what problems you are having with 7.30UC3 and UC5? We're having some, too... Jon. > Is any information available regarding the release of > IDS 7.31 for Unix? We are using 7.30.UC5-1 are is seems ok PS Yesterday we ordered
7.30.UC5 and today 7.30.UC5-1 arrived, hence it is a reasonable current
version. Looking in the Techinfo Centre I think 7.30.UCC6/7.30.UC7 may
be available... I asusme Solaris 2.6.
PS A while back Octav found a bug with temporary tables and this still
ocurrs under 7.30.UC5-1.
Something like
create temp table t1 with log log
insert into t1..
insert into t1..
insert into temp t2 select * from t1 with no log
create index on t2
updates rows in t2
select..from t2 using the index
the index is not updated!!!

Ditto. It hammered Peoplesoft performance. We're currently
looking at reverting back to 7.30UC3 which seemed OK, and the
guys in the States are going to dial in 'cos Informix can't
seem to reproduce the problem.

I'm on AIX 4.2.1 for which I think UC6 is now the latest. But it
doesn't fix our problem which isn't even a known bug yet AFAIK.

Ugh - I don't want to know!
But seriously, thanks for the info.
