NFS and permissions

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I didn't see a FAQ. I have transferred some very large databases (51Mb of census data) onto a partition and exported it via NFS to some other machines around the office. I have been having some trouble with Yellow Pages (tm), so I have manually transferred passwd files, etc., from machine to machine in the interim. Thus, all userids are consistent across machines. Database access permissions seem to work fine on the server machine, but I get error 0329 (no permission) if I try to access the databases from elsewhere. I have gone in and GRANTed DBA,CONNECT,RESOURCE to PUBLIC in a desperation move, but even that doesn't seem to fix things. We are running INFORMIX v2.10 on Interactive 386/ix v2.2.
