IDS 11.70.fc3 Aix 6.1 I have a table that is currently 2.3B rows. The table is fragmented over 39 partitions in 13 dbspaces. I want to compress the table in order to get an idea of the savings we would get from doing this. When I tried running the compress function I got an error creating the dictionary. So, my question is, if I delete all the rows and then load some and turn on the compression .. then load the remaining rows, will this give me a good idea as to what I can expect. This data is POS data, and all the records begin with a date ... Thanks in advance for any insights ... Peter Logan Senior Database Administrator Phone: 616/878-8309
Informix Compression Estimator Program http://www-01.ibm.com/software/sw-library/en_US/detail/L181272S36452U64.html I guess what your proposing sounds reasonable also, but you don't mention what kind of error (setup or engine related). If the latter I would bounce that off tech support regardless if the error only happens with a large amount of data and not a smaller subset.
