Kernel parameters

Greetings all... I am in a real bind here....I am currently installing ODS 7.23.UC4 on a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. Everything on this machine has been installed from scratch. Solaris was installed first and then ODS. We made the recommended changes to /etc/system for the shared memory and semaphore parameters and then tried to initialize the databases. What we came up with was an error .... oninit: fatal error in shared memory creation shared memory not installed for INFORMIXSERVER 'online-fpic' When I looked into IPCS for the OS, I get the message that the "....facility not in the system". After a little research we realized that the applicable patches were not installed for the OS......so we did that. But we still get the errors. Is there something else involved in rebuilding the kernel? The OS does not seem to "see" the changes to /etc/system. I could sure use some guidance!!!!!
