excessive latch waits

Got a little problem. I am running Informix 5.01.UD3 Online on an IBM RS/6000. Lately we have seen some performance problems. Then looking at tbstat -u, I am seeing an excessive amount of latches waits. Most waits seem to be for 30000134. When referencing with tbstat -s, it points to tblsps. Usually in the past, this has pointed to some problem. For instance, a negative number in the npused column in systables. This time however, I cannot find anything obvious. Tbcheck's return no errors, statistics are updated nightly, and no one drive is being maxed.
