Copying database IDS 7.3 to mysql
Posted in 2004
Fred wanted to copy an IDS 7.3 database to MySQL on his laptop so he could keep developing off-site, but his migration tool (SQLWays) choked on tables containing a column named "change", a MySQL reserved word, and re-syncing with fresh server data was costing him half a day every three days. Replies didn't address the reserved-word/export problem directly; Paul Watson simply suggested installing IDS on the laptop and arguing to the boss that the wasted time exceeds a licence cost. No technical resolution or cheap "lite" IDS option is recorded.

Hi, To continue my development when i am out of office, i am in need to export all my database stored with IDS 7.3 to mysql on my laptop. My biggest problem is that the creator of the database named a field "change" wich is a reserved word in mysql. I tried to use a tools called Sqlways to do the transfert but I am not able to bypass the tables with the field "change" Does someone know a procedure to do this kind of work Many thanks in advance, Fred. ps : excuse my poor english :-)
Wouldn't be easy to put IDS on the laptop?? Even with the little diffenrence between Informix SQL and Mysql SQL, i am able to continu my work on the laptop ... My major problem is the update of the laptop database with the server database ... i need to work with fresh data (less than 3 days old) and i cannot lose half a day every 3 days to synchronize the database with the workaround solution i use. Thanks in advance for the magical solution :-) NB: If you know of a "lite" version of IDS we could buy at low cost and install on the laptop that would be a great information. Fred
You could explain to the boss that the cost of all the messing around is a lot more than the cost of the license "Fred (au boulot)" wrote: > > Hi, > > "Paul Watson" <paul@oninit.com> a 'crit dans le message de > news:4064BEFA.A94547B7@oninit.com... > > Wouldn't be easy to put IDS on the laptop?? > > > > "Fred (au boulot)" wrote: > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > To continue my development when i am out of office, i am in need to > export > > > all my database stored with IDS 7.3 to mysql on my laptop. Half a day every 3 days soon adds up to more than a new license.
