Remote Connection
Posted in 1998
I have installed the Informix connectivity software on my Windows NT box and was testing my connection with the ILoginDemo software to a database on AIX. For the connection to work properly I have to have an entry for my desktop machine in the etc/host.equiv in the AIX machine. Once the entry is made the connection works fine. I then installed the Informix connectivity software on another desktop machine and also installed the Buisness Objects software. The Business Objects software is able to connect to the AIX based Informix database without an entry in the etc/host.equiv file. Is there a reason that the Informix software requires the entry in host.equiv? Are the two connections making use of two different sets of Informix software to make their connection? Are there advantages or disadvantages to the two methods? Nothing urgent here, just curious. Thanks for whatever insights you can provide.
