Working with BLOBs
Posted in 2003
Hello all. I have a table that is currently 18 GB in size and growing at a steady clip. Better than 96% of the size of the average record is in a single BYTE column. Right now, everything is stored in standard dbspaces. But if I isolate the BYTE column, the remaining data easily fits in 750 MB. I'm looking for feedback as to the pros and cons of sticking the BYTE data into a BLOBspace, and in particular would like to know if it's possible to split the BLOB data into multiple BLOBspaces rather than in a single BLOB space. (We've had problems backing up dbspaces larger than about 12 GB). The table is currently fragmented ten ways, and we're looking at the possibility of fragmenting it 20 or even 30 ways to keep the spaces manageable. Thanks in advance for your feedback, - TJG
