Increase buffer pool size

Dear All,
i found the following line in the message log of an IDS 10.00 on a Linux Box
having 3GB memory:
WARNING: Buffer pool size is too small for read ahead operation
I would like to increase this parameter, as obviously it has the default
size of 5000 buffers with a 2k page size. But how to do that? I found
different answer on this, searching the documentation and the web.
Can i change the value of the BUFFERPOOL entry in the onconfig file (and
restart IDS)? Or do i have to change this using onparams? How to do that?
Kind regards
Marcus
Just go ahead and change it in the onconfig to what you want and then bounce
the engine.

Onparams is only used to add a new buffer pool for a pagesize that does not
exist yet in preparation for adding a new dbspace with a new pagesize.
Otherwise a buffer pool using the default BUFFERPOOL line setting is
created. You have to edit the ONCONFIG file, change the BUFFERPOOL line for
2K pagesize, and bounce the instance.
