Error -1801in IDS 11.50.FC4
Posted in 2011
A PowerBuilder app on Windows XP hitting a Linux IDS 11.50.FC4WE server returned SQL -1801 "Multiple-server transaction not supported" when a second connection/transaction was opened, although the same code worked on other PCs; the only visible difference was the newer setnet32 3.70.TC1 client (installed with a recent OAT) versus 3.50.TC6 elsewhere. Suggestions included checking the online log (nothing there), setting HETERO_COMMIT=1 (no help), using a sysdbopen procedure to set isolation, avoiding a 3.70 client against an 11.50 server, and checking the edition (WE) restrictions on the server rather than the client. The poster planned to reinstall the older setnet32 but posted no follow-up, so no resolution is recorded.

Hi, I currently using an application (in development in our compagny) which run under Windows XP. This application is connecting to a Linux server to an Informix database The following error occurs when I execute the application: -1801 Multiple-server transaction not supported. This same application works correctly on other posts (with the same source code). The difference I see between my post and the others is that I use setnet 32 3.70 TC1, while the other posts are using setnet 32 3.50 TC6. We are using IDS 11.50.FC4WE. Have you any idea ? Thank you
Hello. Do you have any error appearing in your online log? Maybe it could clarify your situation even more.... Best regards. Hi!!! Try to set HETERO_COMMIT=1 onconfig parameter. I don't know how your application works (Distributed transactions between different databases/instances), but I think you should try. Thank you for your answers No, there isn't any message about this error in the log I just try to set HETERO_COMMIT to 1 but it doesn't solved the problem I don't know if this will help, but here are some details: The application is developed with PowerBuilder which use a "auto-commit" (when a commit or rollback is executed, a new transaction automatically begins). When the user executes the application, a first transaction is created using SQLCA (CONNECT USING SQLCA;) with the "dirty read" isolation When an other transaction is created (with the same user, database, instance and isolation level), the SQL error -1801 occurs What I do not understand is that application works on all the other posts on which this application is installed. This error occurs since I installed the last OAT version which installed IBM Informix setnet32 3.70 TC1. I will try to uninstall this version of setnet32 and install the same version than the other posts to see if the setnet32 version is really the origin of the problem I will post a message to keep you informed when I had the time to perform this manipulation
As far as I know, Informix works with auto-commit when we aren't using an
explicit transaction (begin work and commit work) within a transaction.
Try to create this procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE "user_of_your application".sysdbopen ()
SET ISOLATION TO COMMITED READ;
-- SET LOCK MODE TO WAIT 10;
-- and other configurations for the session of a user
END PROCEDURE;

Thank you for your answers
No, there isn't any message about this error in the log

I don't know if this will help, but here are some details:
The application is developed with PowerBuilder which use a "auto-commit" (when
a commit or rollback is executed, a new transaction automatically begins).
When the user executes the application, a first transaction is created using
SQLCA (CONNECT USING SQLCA;) with the "dirty read" isolation
When an other transaction is created (with the same user, database, instance
and isolation level), the SQL error -1801 occurs
What I do not understand is that application works on all the other posts on
which this application is installed.
This error occurs since I installed the last OAT version which installed IBM
Informix setnet32 3.70 TC1.
I will try to uninstall this version of setnet32 and install the same version
than the other posts to see if the setnet32 version is really the origin of
the problem
I will post a message to keep you informed when I had the time to perform this
manipulation

Hi Olivier, Can you try connect 11.70 server with 3.70.TC1 client ? You used old version server (11.50) with new version of client (3.70 is for 11.70 server). You should check whether your other working platforms are using the same edition (also include the WE at the end). You should also check the restrictions imposed by the edition you are using. Yes - I probably should know what the edition names are and what the limitations of are; I don't. And this is not related to the client - or should not be related to the client. It should all be in the server edition you are using. -- Jonathan Leffler <jonathan.leffler@gmail.com> #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix - v2008.0513 - http://dbi.perl.org "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused." --0023545bdbbc693c01049e75cd5b
