Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user setting up Enterprise Replication on IDS 9.4 under Ubuntu couldn't define the first server: 'cdr define server -c mt -I g_mt' returned "server not defined in sqlhosts (35)", and after renaming entries it failed with error 25507. Madison Pruet pointed out the duplicate 'mt' entry in sqlhosts and, more importantly, that the group entries used ontlitcp when Linux/Ubuntu requires onsoctcp. Switching the protocol let the server initialise. A follow-up confirmed that nightly onbar level-0 backups can run with ER active (logs are tracked for ER), so replication needn't be suspended.

thanks for the quick reply :-)
Yea I though that could be the issue but when I use this sqlhosts file
mt onipcshm mirrortest mtshm
mt_tcp onsoctcp mirrortest mt_tcp
g_rmt group - - i=200rmt ontlitcp mirrortest 1034 g=g_rmt
g_rmirror group - - i=100
rmirror ontlitcp yancy 1034 g=g_rmirror
and use this command
cdr define server -c rmt -I g_rmt
I get this error
connect to rmt failed *Error* <25507> is not a known Enterprise Replication
error (25507)
which is even stranger...

What hardware is this? Should it be onsoctcp or ontlitcp?

Isn't Ubuntu using sockets? Shouldn't it be using onsoctcp?

thanks madison
finally got the server initialised :-)
quick question...
If I use onbar for a level 0 each night will that work at the same time as
replication or do I need to suspend relication until the level 0 finishes ?

the backup will track the logs according to what ER needs - much like i=
t
does with the oldest open transaction with systems that don't have ER.
Basically - it works the same. You can keep ER on.
