utils3_ak POSSIBLE modification
Posted in 2003
After having various woes with my home-grown rotation scripts onsite, which randomly started occurring after running finr for about a year and a half, I've decided to switch to the eventalarm in utils3_ak (thanks Art!). Wanted to post it here, since I didn't find a reference anywhere else, that at least on RedHat Linux systems, running glibc > 2.1, you cannot declare a FILE pointer in the manner that it's declared in gservlog.c: FILE *GSERVLOG = stderr You'll get an error that reads: "initializer element is not in constant" Because (my understanding, may be off), stderr is not declared as a constant anymore. To get around this, modify line 7 in gservlog.c to read: FILE *GSERVLOG; and then within eventalarm.c (around line 177) put a line to read: GSERVLOG = stderr; Which will enable the eventalarm program to compile (and run, thus far) perfectly under RH 7.2 using the line from the README.1st Just more information for the Public. Thanks again. --Anthony Presley
