Hey, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck. New Era walks like an Access, quacks like a Powerbuilder, therefore it should be priced accordingly. But I am probably wrong on this one, not because I want to be, but because New Era is UN-marketed. There's almost no information about it, no promotion of it, and certainly no pricing that is affordable for most developers. So my little wish for it is to have Informix price it so I'll buy it, learn to use it, get excited about it, and then help promote it where I work. But even at that we never saw 4GL promoted worth a damn--no co-op marketing! When are they going to start this? Instead they push their consultants into the market promoting THEM instead of independents, who are more than willing to develop the market. I was told last year by Informix folk down south ( Ft. Lauderdale ) that New Era was primarily a migration product for shops with a big investment in 4GL wanting to move to GUI. If this is the case, then why didn't they involve some of the strongest bigots for 4GL in the marketing campaign? I would have loved to have helped out, but did anybody call me? Did anybody ask me to evaluate New Era? Did anybody email me and tell me to stop poopooing New Era? No on all counts. So I continue to poopoo New Era and Informix for excluding me in the future of their products. Do they have an active web site? Do they have an active developer program? Hell, I don't know. I've gotten several IIUG conference brochures even after signing up, but nobody calls me or emails me about squat from Informix. They now want to remain silent and maybe this is some kind of strategy. It's almost like ALL the friggin employees of Informix want the company to go belly up. Nobody there gives a shit. Bizarre. Just F***ing bizarre. -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com (6 6) ------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o--------- http://www.inxutil.com
