Running setup.exe and telling it that my SQLHOSTS server is my >Win95 box doesn't get me anywhere either. It bitches that I've seen this error. It comes because you don't have administrator rights to the box. The Server section of Setnet stores it's info in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section of the registry. You need administrator rights to modify this. The Environment and Hosts sections are stored in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER portion of the registry which you can modify without being administrator. Try running Setnet32 and changing an environment variable on the first panel. Click OK or Apply and you won't get the error. Now try to change the Server information and click OK or apply. You will get the error because Setnet32 is trying to modify the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE portion of the registry. One last note. It is enough to select the Server panel in Setnet to make Setnet try to alter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE when you click OK or Apply, whether you change information or not. Even though you get the "Could not open the registry" error, the Environment and Host information you changed will still be modified in the HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE. Bruce Farwell Spartan Stores, Inc.
