This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Antonin Rozehnal got 'SMX failed to create pipes for clone restore' running ifxclone on IDS 12.10.FC13 on AIX. Mike Walker asked about 'not trusted' messages in the source instance log and told him to check hosts.equiv or REMOTE_SERVER_CFG. The source log showed a wrong trusted host entry; after fixing it the clone completed. Solved.

I am running IDS 12.10.FC13XACAEE on AIX 7.2. For the first time I wanted to use the clone utility. I created a small instance of IDS (just rootdbs and tmpdbs. From the target server I ran:
ifxclone -S my_serv -I <ip_source> -P <port_source> -t ifxclone -i <target_ip> -p <target_port> --createchunkfile
The instance on the target was created but in the final stage an error occurred:
SMX failed to create pipes for clone restore
The instance could not be started. In the IDS changelog this error was present on Solaris but should be fixed by now.
Is there any solution for this problem?
I tried to block the use of SMX by commenting out the SMX parameters, or setting ENCRYPT_SMX but that didn't help.

I don't see my earlier reply here, so let me have another go...!
Do you see any message in the Informix log on your SOURCE informix instance, perhaps saying "Client host or user
xxx@yyy
is not trusted by the server"?
I have seen this error when the server trusts have not been set up correctly. Check you /etc/hosts.equiv files or your trusted hosts file if using REMOTE_SERVER_CFG.
If the new instance was created, but just has nothing in it, and the sqlhosts is correct, you can try connecting with dbaccess sysmaster@
<remotetcpname>
to see if you can connect instance-to-instance and confirm the connectivity between the two.

Hi Mike,
you are right, in the log on the source there was a log entry about the wrong trusted host.
After the fix, the clone finished OK, and the db on the target is running :-)
I assumed that the trusted host setting was OK, because the data transfer occurred and I was just looking at the log on the target. :-(
Thanks a lot for the prompt reply and advice.

On the source server did you see any messages about "Client host or user xxx is not trusted by the server"?
I have seen this same message when the trusts have not been set up between the servers - check the /etc/hosts.equiv file on the source server or the Informix trusted hosts file if using REMOTE_SERVER_CFG.
