export/import via tape

Hy, Is there any INFORMIX goeroe who has experience in performing dbexport/dbimport actions from an Informix Online 5.0 dbase to an Informix ODS 7.23 dbase on TAPE. I can export the 5.0-dbase to tape: dbexport <db-name> -t /dev/rmt/c0d1 -b 64k -s 2000000k But when I try to import the tape on the 7.23 dbase: dbimport <db-name> -t /dev/rmt/c0d1 I get the message: Read tape failed *** Import data corrupted 0: Unknown error 0 I'm able to import the same tape to a 5.0-dbase (so the tape isn't corrupt). And if i make an image of the tape to disk (with the command: dd if=/dev/rmt/c0d1 of=/f2-1/EXPORT bs=64k) I can use that image to perform the import on the 7.23 database. Weird, isn't it ? But I WANT TO IMPORT FROM TAPE TO A 7.23 DATABASE, WHY DOESN'T THIS WORK ???????? Even the Informix support line doesn't know it so far ! thanks, Wim Van Poelvoorde ISG Consultant UNISYS Belgium

Haven't a clue, but have you tried to copy the tables directly from the 5.0x engine to the 7.23 engine? My dbcopy.ec utility, in the submission to the IIUG Software Repository named utils2_ak, can copy directly from one server to the other VERY quickly. Art S. Kagel

If you are using AIX or a derivative I'd check the tape blocking is not being explicitly set at the device level. Have you tried redirecting the dd output into the dbimport?
