Update statistics question

Hi Everybody, I have been doing some investigation into update statistics and was wondering if any one has similar experiences. Environment DEC OSF 3.2g Informix v7.20uc1 table: columns 25 rowsize 168 rows 3000000 I did the following: bounce informix update statistics low for table xxx(col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6,col7,col8); 3 min 54 sec elapsed bounce informix update statistics low for table xxx(col1); update statistics low for table xxx(col2); update statistics low for table xxx(col3); update statistics low for table xxx(col4); update statistics low for table xxx(col5); update statistics low for table xxx(col6); update statistics low for table xxx(col7); update statistics low for table xxx(col8); 3 min 46 sec elapsed bounce informix update statistics low for table xxx; 3 min 40 sec elapsed col1 to col8 are all part1 index columns. From these results I would contend that the update statistics recomendations in the release notes pertaining to the final step "update statistics low" are unnecessary. It would be better to run update statistics low for the whole table not for specific columns. Comments please. David Ashby
