Hi, i tried to access an informix table with JDBC. Unfortunately the DB (old version?) is located on a workstation and the columns have names wich are longer than 18 characters and the JDBC driver (com.informix.jdbc.IfxDriver) does not allow me to use longer names? any suggestions how to access the data in JAVA ? thanx Frank -- +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ | | |_|_|_|_| Frank Schroedter | URL: http://www.igd.fhg.de/| | __|__|_|_|_|_| Dipl.-Inform. | EMAIL:schroedt@igd.fhg.de | | | |_|_|_|_| Fraunhofer Center for | | | __|__|_|_|_|_| Research in Computer | | | __ | __| Graphics (Fh-IGD), | | | /_ |/_ /_ | Rundeturmstr. 6 | PH :(+49) 6151 155555 | | / / / /_/ | 64283 Darmstadt,Germany | FAX:(+49) 6151 155559 | +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+

AFAIK, all current Informix Online versions still allow only 18 char names. Still, assuming the problem is real: could you avoid the problem by creating simple views of all the tables you require? In the views rename the columns to be 18 chars or shorter. I realise it may not be that efficient. > > thanx > > Frank > > -- > +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ > | | |_|_|_|_| Frank Schroedter | URL: http://www.igd.fhg.de/| > | __|__|_|_|_|_| Dipl.-Inform. | EMAIL:schroedt@igd.fhg.de | > | | |_|_|_|_| Fraunhofer Center for | | > | __|__|_|_|_|_| Research in Computer | | > | __ | __| Graphics (Fh-IGD), | | > | /_ |/_ /_ | Rundeturmstr. 6 | PH :(+49) 6151 155555 | > | / / / /_/ | 64283 Darmstadt,Germany | FAX:(+49) 6151 155559 | > +--------------+-------------------------------------------------------+ -- Peter Lancashire Information Systems Specialist, Bayer plc Eastern Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 7AH, UK Tel: +44-1635-562258, Fax: +44-1635-562281 -- If all else fails, read the instructions and the release notes.
