String concatenation in OnLine stored procedure

Hi, Hope you can help me. I'm trying to concatenate strings in a stored procedure (Online 5.03, SunOS 4.1.3) and have found the || operator but how do you do : LET len_str = LENGTH(str1) LET str = str[1,len_str] || str2 It won't let me put a variable within the character substring specification. [1,3], for example, is fine, but a variable, no! Alas, there is no CLIPPED operator either. Any and all suggestions gratefully received. Thankyou. Andy. -- Andy Lennard andy@kontron.demon.co.uk
