With a tool called SQLMover you can pull data from any ODBC compliant database including Excel. All you need is the ODBC driver for Informix and one for Excel. The Excel ODBC driver you can download from www.sqlmover.com. All you need to do in Excel is to define your database. What you do is mark all cells that are going to be accesible for the ODBC driver and go to the "name box" and type a name - now you have an Excel Database. Next you start the ODBC manager and define the Excel file as a datasource. After that start SQLMover and point the destination ODBC driver to your excel file and your destination to the informix DB. Then map the excel db-fields to the Infomix table columns. Now you can transfer manually or schedule the transfer/conversion to be automatic. SQLMover is an automatic or on-demand tool that allows you to replicate automatically between any ODBC compliant datasource including Oracle, Ingres, Informix, DB2, Text files, Excel and SQL Server. SQLMover uses standard, simple or complex SQL Select statement in one end withc means that you can filter and aggregate the info (if you use an intelligent rdbms) and a INSERT, UPDATE, INSERT then UPDATE, UPDATE the INSERT or DELETE statement towards the destination database table. Data conversion can be performed by using the SQL convert option, by using the built in Format Mask functions or by using triggers in the destination database. To evaluate until Oct.31 you can download from www.sqlmover.com (follow the download buttons) and use the evaluation key OSHKSHTD. The key allows you to transfer max. 500 rows per transfer/replication task and max. 5 tasks can be defined. For Data Mart Data Warehousing purposes you can choose to let SQLMover aggregate your data by using SELECT - GROUP BY. (doesn't work with Excel though since it's not a full fledged rdbms) That is if you don't want to replicate each row. Peder Holst, pederh@elektrosoft.se
