RE: Informix-SE 4.1 to 7.1 - any problems ?
Posted in 1997
Hi Paul! We have just migrated one of our customers, from SCO UNIX release 5, = Informix SE 5.x,=20 to Solaris 2.5.1, Informix SE 7.x . We experienced no problems at all, = just be aware to check for indices corruption, and run update statistics. The Informix SE = 7.x family products use the "INFORMIXSERVER" environment variable and the = $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts configuration file, that you must configure "refer to your installation = manual". The database itsel, I mean the "yourdatabase.dbs" directory will be supported = transparently. We have a 3rd party application that is running against an Informix-SE 4.1 database on HP-UX 9.04. We have been told that, as part of an application upgrade we will be moving to Informix-SE 7.1 on HP-UX 10.20. If anyone has experience of this sort of move with Informix I would be grateful if you could let me know things like: - how straightforward an upgrade is it ? - are there any problems to watch out for ? - any other relevant advice Our systems people have said 'it will be transparent to the user' - OTOH, I have always been wary of transparency and would appreciate any helpful comments. TIA Paul. --=20 Paul Colton paulc@catan.demon.co.uk
