RE: What do you know about the btclean thread ?

Stephan,
The btree cleaner thread is responsible for going through all
indexes after a delete has occurred and removing any deleted entries.
When a row is deleted from table that is indexed, Informix sets a
flag on the index entry to indicate the entry no longer exists. This
was done to eliminate the adjacent key locking problem.
The btree cleaner thread will wake periodically during active
periods to check its queue for entries. If it finds them, it deletes
the corresponding index entry (and I believe performs index
collapsing as well). If the thread is sleeping forever, it simply
means the system is not actively performing any work requiring the
thread. When activity begins, the thread will be awakened and
continue its normal operations.
Regarding your hung system - keep in mind that full logical logs are
not the only thing that will hang a system. Under 7.x, you now have
the ONDBSPACEDOWN parameter in your $ONCONFIG file. If it is set to
2 and something occurs to one of your chunks, the system will "WAIT"
until the problem has been corrected and you execute an onmode -O or
shut down and reinit the engine (onmode -ky, oninit).
