KAIO with Solaris 2.6
Posted in 1999
Topics: Platform-Specific Issues
From what I have understand, KAIO is off by default.
The release note of my Informix (7.30UC5) running
on a Solaris 2.6 (SunOS 5.6 Generic_105181-11
sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250) tells me KAIO is
supported. I have several raw devices but also
some cooked files. (raw devices are strips made
with DiskSuite)
How can i enable KAIO then ? If I do a onstat -g
ath or onstat -g iov I can see there is no kio
thread.
I have try to set the KAIOON environment variable
to 1, but it doesn't change anything.
Any ideas ?
regards,
Francois
Actually on Solaris KAIO is enabled by default, most platforms are except
FAIK HPUX. If you do not have the Solaris Kernel Asynchronous I/O modules
installed it will not work and the engine will disable KAIO. Check the
release notes for the required OS options and patches.

KAIO is on by default, it's part of the base OS, therefore
will be used unless you tell it otherwise. AFAIK you can't not install it.
I'd check out Sun Online to see if there are problems, but as you
describe it it should work.
