HP AutoRAID question....
Posted in 1998
Bleatings. I have a client who has recently "upgraded" from an HP 9000 D-class to an HP 9000 V-class, pretty much from the bottom of the range to the top of the range. They have gone from two slow processors to three very fast processors. However, response time on the new machine is no better than it was on the old one. The onconfig file is largely the same, the only major difference is that use is now made of more than one CPU VP. (OPTCOMPIND = 0, before you ask... :-) The only other substantial difference between the two systems is that the new machine has HP AutoRAID. It is my suspicion that this is what is causing the relatively poor performance. The older machine was offering blinding performance, relatively speaking, after a tuning session that included kernel, OnLine, indexes and application. But I can't believe that I'm that good that a machine about 50 times as powerful as the old one offers no improvement.... :-) Any recommendations? Also, what other info do you need on the new machine to offer comments? -- /Ciao, \\Billy / \\Group Managing Director, The West Solutions Group: http://www.west.co.za / Chairman, South African Informix User Group: http://www.west.co.za/~saiug \\ Informix FAQ @ http://www.iiug.org/techinfo/faq/faq_top.html / Drivel @ http://www.west.co.za/tasteless/ \\________________________________________________________________________________________________
