The second, 4GL specific, is to move to QueriX which is UTF-8 aware (although your engine compatibility may vary...). Even with QueriX there are, or were, problems on SCO OpenServer 5 which may affect things other than QueriX since it appears to be related to ctype tables and the multibyte character functions. I came up with a solution that replaced the mb*() functions with dumb ones that only did simple 8bit characters rather than the full UTF-8 gamut (*all* our forms have 8bit characters since we use an IBMPC character set for line drawing characters :-) ). I don't know if newer versions of QueriX or SCO solve the multibyte problems fully. Informix should realise that *not* having multinational language capabilities is a *BIG* problem with the on going European unification. Lots of companies that thought they were single language/country are discovering different...
