IDS 9.4 on HPUX 11i Is it recommended to run update statistics on the system tables?
Yes. Run: output to 'update_syscatalogs.sql' without headings select "UPDATE STATISTICS HIGH FOR TABLE " || TRIM ( tabname ) || ";" from systables where tabid < 100 and tabtype = "T"; Then run the update_syscatalogs.sql. -----Original Message----- From: forum.subscriber@iiug.org [mailto:forum.subscriber@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Anthony Sent: Monday, June 20, 2005 8:31 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: update statistics on system tables [5202] IDS 9.4 on HPUX 11i Is it recommended to run update statistics on the system tables?
I always do ... at least once per week. YMMV. Take care. Clifton Anthony <ajudish@lextron-inc.com> wrote: IDS 9.4 on HPUX 11i Is it recommended to run update statistics on the system tables?
System catalog tables (ie tabid <100), yes. Sysmaster pseudotables, no. If you are using dostats you can tell it to include the system catalog tables by adding the -m option. However, note that you have to do this only rarely, like immediately after creating your database schema and if you add/drop a significant number of tables. Update stats does not have to be performed on catalog tables periodically like it does on your own tables since these rarely change. Art S.
