Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Anthony asked whether to run update statistics on system tables in IDS 9.4 on HP-UX. Jerry Hamilton gave a query generating UPDATE STATISTICS HIGH for tables with tabid below 100, and Clifton Bean did it weekly. Art Kagel said catalog tables yes, sysmaster pseudotables no; dostats -m includes catalogs, and it is needed only rarely, e.g. after creating the schema or large table changes.
Auto-generated by Claude from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.
Yes.
Run:
output to 'update_syscatalogs.sql' without headings
select "UPDATE STATISTICS HIGH FOR TABLE " || TRIM ( tabname ) || ";"
from systables
where tabid < 100 and tabtype = "T";
Then run the update_syscatalogs.sql.

Subject: update statistics on system tables [5202]
IDS 9.4 on HPUX 11i
Is it recommended to run update statistics on the system tables?
I always do ... at least once
per week. YMMV.
Take care.

System catalog tables (ie tabid <100), yes. Sysmaster pseudotables, no. If you
are using dostats you can tell it to include the system catalog tables by
adding the -m option. However, note that you have to do this only rarely, like
immediately after creating your database schema and if you add/drop a
significant number of tables. Update stats does not have to be performed on
catalog tables periodically like it does on your own tables since these rarely
change.
