Everything in life has a good and a bad side. I guess that LIKE is there in an attempt to overcome to 4gl shortcomings due to the lack of user define types, but it sure creates more problems than it solves (I totally agree when it comes to multiple databases!). Still, there may be a couple of situations where LIKE comes handy. Marco. PS.: I have a handful of 4gl, SE & Online bugs the Italian Informix distributor never explained or corrected. Wait to see them on the net!
