IECC Backup Functions

I'm using IECC to run some backups on Windows NT/IDS 7.3TC3 and find that when I pick backup from the menu for the server my machine goes to 100% CPU and my clients experience response time problems while IECC is checking for "server information". Has anybody else noticed this? If I run my backups using onbar will I have a similar problem? What tools do people use to backup OLTP databases? Cheers
