Hi everybody, Is is possible to install the 4GL compiler over an existing engine with a 4GL runtime license ? I did that yesterday and got a " License failure: acquire: No servers available for this vendor (network license server/library). " error during compile. What do we do if we want to install the compiler as an afterthought? Is the order of installation as specified in the Installation guide very strict ? In which case, once the engine is installed, you can not do anything else. Let me know if anybody has had any luck with something like this. This is INFORMIX 7.23 UC1, 4GL 6.05 UD1. Platform: IBM AIX 4.1.4 Thanks Sujata Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Platform: IBM AIX 4.1.4 For 7.3x product the installation order has been eased a bit by making sure that the message files and base libraries in each product at the same release level are compatible. This is NOT the case for 7.1x and 7.2x products. However, having said that the rule that older versions MUST be installed before newer versions still holds, otherwise message files with new messages and libraries with new code will be overwritten with older ones. The message files and base libraries in 4GL 6.05 are NOT compatible with those in IDS 7.23 so, yes, if you must install a 4GL 6.05 runtime then you must re-install the IDS software afterward along with any other 7.xx product like Informix Connect. We encountered the same problem. You can only install one type on one machine... so if its runtime, you can't compile and vice-versa. In our case, we had to set up another machine for the dev't and do the runtime tests on the other. We did ask informix tech support about this... and they said .. c'est la vie... This is on an NT box with d4gl version 3.0 hth, Joben Sujata Soman wrote: > Hi everybody, > Is is possible to install the 4GL compiler over an existing engine > with a 4GL runtime license ? Some features are: True Windows GUI Clients. ActiveX support. HTML Report Generation. More rigorous error handling. Connection to other RDBMS such as Oracle. Connection to all versions of Informix 4GL with no need to change compiler.
