I'd talk to Informix about the new tool which has/will come out
with Online 7.2 which is called OnBar. It is supposed to be the
best backup tool for Informix. There were two previous tools
ontape which can only be used to restores complete dbspaces and
only writes to one tape device at a time and OnArchive which was
not written by Informix and even Informix admits is crap.
Informix has written OnBar themselves and is not replying on outside
resources to handle backups anymore. OnBar will define a low-level
tape drive API which OnBar uses to control the tape drive and tape
manufactures will write 'device drivers' which conform to this API.
