When you do tbunload binary data is written to diskfiles as it's
stored in the database. When you use dbexport ascii data is written
with variable field length and a delimiter between the fields. This
format apperantly requires less space than the original binary data in
the database (not uncommon). The physical log isn't involved in any of
this at all.
