RE: Help re: moving Website from UNIX/Informix to NT/SQL

Hello! The only thing I can say here is it's not a great idea to migrate from UNIX to NT and from Informix to MS SQL. First, NT as a server (both Web and application/DB) is incomparably less stable, more resource- consuming and more subject to unexpected changed than virtually any version of UNIX. It's a proprietary OS, with all the consequences inevitable. Then, MS SQL is based on Transact-SQL, a pretty ancient language. The procedural languages of Informix, InterBase and especially Oracle are incomparably more powerful and convenient. Then, MS SQL runs on NT only, any ability to migrate the system will be lost. In fact, I've never heard anything good about NT from the folks administrating the servers- both Web and conventional. Especially, in comparison with Solaris, SunOS, Linux. Then, some latest news from DBMS Magazine and other sources prompt that in the nearest future the role of CORBA in the Internet will significantly increase (maybe, even eating the niche of HTTP). UNIX is a far better environment for such applications than NT. Cheers Igor I. Lisyansky
