Hi, Currently we are using Informix 12.10 FC4 and we are planning to apply the FC5 patch. Can any one share me the document on step by step procedure to implement the patches. Thanks in Advance.., Durga
Durga: Here: 1. Start an archive - just to be safe. 2. Create a new INFORMIXDIR to hold the new installation. 3. Install the new release in the new INFORMIXDIR 4. Copy the ONCONFIG file and sqlhosts file from the existing INFORMIXDIR to the new one 5. Compare the ONCONFIG file to the onconfig.std in the new release to identify new parameters that you may want to configure. (You can also check the "What's New" section of the Administrator's Reference manual for these and for changes to the behavior and setting of older parameters.) 6. Review the ONCONFIG to make sure there are not embedded paths to the old version's installation directory (you can use $INFORMIXDIR inside the ONCONFIG file to indicate the current path instead) and make necessary changes. 7. Shut down the existing release. 8. Unlink the INFORMIXDIR link from the older release's installation directory and point it to the new one. (If you have been using a symbolic link for setting the INFORMIXDIR environment variable and use INFORMIXDIR rather than the actual path everywhere - like in PATH - this is all you need to do.) 9. Start the engine using the new release. 10. Start an archive - just to be safe. Art Art S. You simply install FC5, preferably into a separate directory which you=20 then sym-link to or point your INFORMIXDIR to, so you can switch between=20 the two versions as needed. Don't forget to copy configuration files from = old to new installation. Next you shut down the FC4 server, point your environment to the new=20 installation and bring it up using the new software. As there's no conversion required between the two fixpack levels, you can=20 switch between the two seamlessly as you want. Once you're sure the old=20 version isn't needed any more, you can safely remove it.
