In my view, the Data Administration is different from Database Administration. Data Administration combines business knowledge and processes. It requires domain knowledge etc. etc. Database administration deals with efficient organization and retrieval of data. The distinction between the two is not apparent in small and stable domains. In most shops, both the roles are handled by the same group. Some one recommended looking into software engineering group. On a couple of occasions I did browse the articles posted there. Unfortunately I did not see much of the discussion on the data and/or domain knowledge etc. Lastly, the charter for this new data administration group should make clear mission statement to focus and be educative to all.
