Ifmx Mirroring OR RAID 1 (or 10)

Folks, We are configuring some new T4-1 servers (Solaris 10). In addition to the two spinning-metal drives (which we are using for the O/S), we have 6 100 GB SSDs, and built in RAID hardware. This will be sufficient for our 9small) database. We will be configuring in one of two ways: 1) Three mirrored (RAID 1) pairs; or 2) One RAID 10 array of three mirrored pairs. If we use method 1, above, would it be better to use the built-in RAID hardware to present three (mirrored) devices to Informix; or to use Informix to create the mirrors? If we use method two, we would use the built-in hardware to create one big RAID 10 device and carve it up to our hearts' desire. Thank you for any thoughts. Regards, DG
RAID10 is probably easiest to manage. If you go with RAID1/mirror, use the hardware mirror. It will be faster than Informix mirror in general. Art Art S.
