This is how I've done it in the past, and how I would highly recommend doing it. I modified the printer interface files for the different brands of printers in use, and added a landscape option. Not all printers use the same codes (although most of them do). In the environment that I was in, there were two printers, one HP and one Not. Some users were using one printer, and other users were using the other. If I hard coded the escape codes into the report, I'd have to compile the report for each printer. Using the -ol option allowed the interface file to send the appropriate codes. You may be using all HP-4's now, but what happens if you get a different printer in the future. What a hassle to recompile all your reports for the new printer. Even if you don't see this as a possibility... I always chose to write the most portable code possible because I know that at some point, I'll be happy I did. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Daniel James - Database Administrator djames@statsci.com StatSci, a div of MathSoft, Inc.
