RE: For fans of GUI tools
Posted in 2008
I think that there's a bit of confusion.
OTC points to a graphical tool that helps with back end database to java object mapping.
(Doesn't the new JPA take better care of this?)
This doesn't do anything for your GUI. Its a *GUI* tool not a *GUI BUILDER*.
And yes, 4GL to EGL was a complete waste of time.
You're doing a paradigm shift from a 4GL (shell window) environment to a multiple window/popup environment.
Your MVC is a bit more complex in the V and C layers/components.
If you're going to shift your display paradigm from a single window app to a multiple window app, forked or threaded app, you need to probably rethink your design a bit.
But from the descriptions of Data Studio Developer, that's not what you're getting.
If you're doing any GUI (SWING, AWT), you will probably want to look at NetBeans over Eclipse.
I use both and I think NetBeans is a bit more polished.
If you're looking at newer languages, there's Ruby/Rails, and Groovy/Grails although depending on what you want to do, they may not be the best tools to work with.
